Jenkins Memorial Fund Scholarships

The Jenkins Memorial Fund was established in 2004 in memory of former Chancellor, Roy Jenkins. The Fund promotes the exchange of students between universities in continental Europe and the University of Oxford by providing scholarships in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Award information

Students can study at a partner university in the Europaeum association of a select group of leading European universities. The current partners are the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), Bologna, Helsinki, the Catholic University of Portugal (Lisbon), Leiden, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat Munchen, Madrid (Complutense), Paris I (Pantheon-Sorbonne), Prague (Charles University), the Graduate Institute of International & Development Studies, Geneva, and the Jagiellonian in Krakow.

Duration: Three months to one year

Value: Up to £10,000 depending on duration and costs of planned study abroad

Number: Up to two scholarships

Year of study: All years of study; final year students must indicate clearly why their proposed study abroad will be directly relevant to their studies at this stage

Other information

It is expected that students will continue to be registered for a degree at the University of Oxford during the period of their study abroad.

Successful candidates will be required to obtain the approval of their college to study away from the University of Oxford, and, where applicable, must also obtain dispensation from residence from their faculty board.

Students taking part in an Erasmus exchange will not normally be eligible for Jenkins Memorial Fund Scholarships.
