Italian Institute of Technology PhD Scholarships on Printed and Molecular Electronics

The research line “Printed and Molecular Electronics” (PME), led by Dr. Mario Caironi, is active at the Center for Nanoscience and Technology (CNST) in Milan, one of the nodes of the network established by Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in close collaboration with Italian academic institutions. PME aims at improving the knowledge on the opto-electronic properties of solution-processable semiconductors, in particular conjugated organic materials and other carbon based semiconductors, and at taking full advantage of their printability in order to deliver applications in the large-area and flexible electronics field. PME mainly focuses in the following areas: Printed and direct-written organic and hybrid circuits, High frequency printed transistors, High quantum yield printed photodetectors, Organic thermoelectrics, Charge injection and transport in high mobility solution processed transistors, Biocompatible and Edible electronics.

PME is opening 4 PhD scholarships at Politecnico di Milano Phd school on projects aiming at the development of printed, flexible and light-weight electronics. PhD calls will be launched on April 20: three at the Physics Engineering Department, one at the Electronics Engineering Department.

Projects topics include

a) High-frequency printed and direct-written organic and hybrid transistors;

b) High-resolution Charge-modulation Microscopy for charge transport investigation in polymer and hybrid transistors;

c) Doping of high mobility polymer semiconductors;

d) Solution processed hybrid-perovskites transistors.

Prerequisites

Ideal candidates should be extremely motivated, hold a Master’s Degree in Material Science, Physics, Engineering or related subjects, have an outstanding academic record, besides strong communication and team-working skills.

Application

Interested applicants should contact Mario Caironi (mario.caironi@iit.it), submitting their CV and two possible contacts for a recommendation letter. From April 20, candidates can apply online to the Politecnico di Milano PhD call here http://www.dottorato.polimi.it/en/looking-for-a-phd/call-for-positions-and-scholarships/calls/32nd-cycle-phdcall-20162017/.
