Future NATO Fellowship Competition

The Future NATO fellowship provides expenses-paid travel and participation at the 2016 NATO Future Leaders Summit in Warsaw on July 6-9, 2016. Fellows will host a public event in their home city at which they will display their photo and lead a discussion on the future of NATO.

 

To Apply

Submit an original photo, taken by you, in response to the prompt “What NATO means to me” (not a headshot) along with a 200-word essay caption that describes the relationship between your photo and the prompt. Only European citizens residing in European NATO member and Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council countries (full list below) between the ages of 18 to 35 are eligible to be selected for the Future NATO fellowship competition. The deadline for submissions and voting is March 1, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Roughly the top twenty five candidates will be selected for a phone interview between March 3-10, 2016. All entries must be submitted in English.

EAPC partners include: Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, Macedonia, Georgia, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

 

Background

 
From July 8-9, 2016, heads of state and government, top diplomats, military commanders, and other international leaders will convene at the NATO Summit in Warsaw, Poland to make decisions that will affect the global geopolitical and economic landscape. To leverage this opportunity, the Atlantic Council is organizing a Future Leaders Summit (FLS) that will convene exceptional young leaders thirty-five years old and younger from around the world alongside the official NATO Summit. This competition is geared towards rising leaders from Europe with an interest in international security and foreign affairs. The top rated submissions, as determined by popular voting, will receive an interview with Atlantic Council staff. The top ten finalists will be selected to host a public-facing event on the future of NATO and attend the Future Leaders Summit in July.
