The TUM Department of Informatics invites applications for a Full Professorship »Technical Informatics / Computer Architecture« Pay-scale grade W3, to be appointed as soon as possible.

We are looking for a scholar of distinction with a high international reputation in Technical Informatics. The successful candidate will have demonstrated an internationally recognized research program as well as outstanding academic records and is expected to perform cutting-edge research in Technical Informatics. A proven ability to attract competitive national and international funding is expected.

Research will include an expertise in the interplay of hardware and software in performance‑ and energy‑optimized systems. Foundations as well as application‑oriented systems should be in the focus of the research agenda. The candidate should have demonstrated expertise in several of the following areas:

  • Computer Architecture
  • Co‑Design / Reconfigurable Computer Systems
  • Systems Programming Methodologies
  • Many‑Core Architectures (and other Innovative Architectures)
  • Scalable Systems
  • Foundations of Energy‑Efficient Computer Systems
  • High‑Performance Computing
  • Application‑Specific Optimization of Computer Systems

In cooperation with other departments of TUM and the Leibniz Rechenzentrum (LRZ) in Garching the Chair of Technical Informatics is expected to create an interdisciplinary competence center in performance‑optimized computer systems. This competence center should foster the initiation of interdisciplinary projects with national and international partners from academia as well as with industry. The professorship is expected to participate in the directorship of the Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

In addition to providing strong, committed leadership and inspiration in research, the candidate will also be expected to actively contribute to the ongoing development of the university’s research and teaching program, support the promotion of young scientists and participate in university boards and committees. Teaching assignments include courses in the subject area and the basic courses offered by the department as well as courses for other academic TUM departments.

Prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree, teaching skills at university level, and additional academic achievements (according to Art. 7 and Art. 10 III BayHSchPG). Candidates for this position should be aged 51 or under at the time of appointment; exceptions to this rule might be possible. The ability to teach in English is a prerequisite for TUM Professors.
