Conference Travel Grant: Chinese Studies
Eligibility: University of Chicago graduate students traveling to present papers at conferences.
Deadline: Rolling applications each academic year, but must be submitted one month prior to conference travel.
Description:
This grant provides modest support for students traveling outside the Chicago metropolitan area to present a paper on a topic relating to Chinese studies. The grant takes the form of reimbursement for up to $300 of travel-related expenses. A limited number of grants are also available for international conference travel up to $400. Students may apply for and receive this grant more than once in an academic year. If approved for the grant, original receipts and reimbursement paperwork requests must be submitted within 30 days of returning from travel. No exceptions.
Committee on Chinese Studies
The Committee on Chinese Studies is comprised of all University of Chicago faculty with a scholarly interest in Chinese subjects. The committee coordinates and supports China-related programs throughout the university and presents a wide variety of China-related outreach activities both on and off campus. It also seeks to partner with other entities locally, regionally, nationally and globally to build China awareness and strengthen Chinese studies. Paul Copp serves as chair of the Chinese Studies Committee.

Professor Copp is an historian focusing on the material sources of Chinese religion from the eighth through the twelfth centuries. He also publishes on Chinese religion and philosophy, with and eye towards paleology.
