First announcement

The Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Research University Higher School of Economics (St. Petesrburg) are organizing the International conference Armenia and the Middle East: Written Heritage from Manuscripts to the Internet dedicated to the memory of Prof. Dr. Karen N. Yuzbashyan (1927–2009), outstanding specialist in the history of medieval Armenia and the Byzantine Empire, renowned expert on Armenian manuscripts. The Conference covers a wide range of subjects connected, in the first instance, with researches in the fields of the Armenian manuscript tradition, the medieval culture of Armenia in general and Armenian-Byzantine relations. However, some issues of studying more recent sources on Armenology, including archival materials and electronic resources, are also expected to be touched upon.

Historians, philologists, art critics, archivists and specialists in other disciplines related to studies of written heritage of Armenia and the Armenian people are invited to participate in the Conference, which will be held in St. Petersburg on September 25 & 26, 2017 (on Monday and Tuesday). Those, who are interested to take part in it, should send the titles and abstracts of their papers in English and Russian (of no more than 200 words) to its organizers’ electronic addresses cited below. The organizers reserve the right to accept or reject the applications.  

The working languages of the Conference are English and Russian.

The first day of the Conference will be held in the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts at the following address: 18, Dvortsovaya embankment;

its second day – in the National Research University Higher School of Economics at the following address: 16, Soyuza Pechatnokov (Printers Trade Union) street.

There is no registration fee. The Conference participants are offered to book hotels themselves; however, at their request, the organizers are ready to assist them in that matter.
