The International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS) is recruiting members for the IAPSS Think Tank of 2015 – 2016, with the topic ‘Challenging Democracy’.

The Theme

Democracy is at the heart of political science and practice in the 21st century. The topic of the Think Tank 2015 – 2016,Challenging Democracy, seeks a broad engagement with the practices, challenges and theories of democracy. The Think Tank aims at finding critical and imaginative answers to some of the core questions in current democracy research and will investigate the values and norms of democracy as well as threats to democracy and democratization processes. Thereby, it will also question and challenge democracy, democratic practices and democratic legitimization and their role in shaping the world in the 21st century.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for creative high-quality approaches covering all angles of the topic, from traditional questions of democracy studies to more unusual approaches, including but not limited to questions around digital democracy, challenges to democracy and comparative analysis of political systems; all theoretical and methodological approaches are welcome. We are looking for 5 postgraduate students and / or early stage researchers to work collaboratively and individually in order to strengthen the research agenda and profile of the International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS).

The dissemination of research results will be decided by the members in cooperation with the Academic Department of IAPSS and could include conference papers, journal papers, blogposts and other. Travel grants will be awarded to those members presenting papers related to the Think Tank at IAPSS Conferences and IAPSS Events, and special panels can be scheduled to present and discuss the work of the Think Tank members.

Application Procedure

In order to apply please send us your CV (without photograph) and cover letter, outlining your motivation to be part of the Think Tank and your main contribution and approach. Applicants should also submit a writing sample (preferably, but not necessarily, linked to the topic). While members of the Think Tank are required to be members of IAPSS it is possible to join once you have been selected. Applications should be submitted to thinktank@iapss.org until July 15, 2015.
