Cardiff University International Elite Scholarships

These prestigious scholarships are designed to reward the brightest, most talented music students from around the world. Ten scholarships worth £1500 each will be available for the academic year 2016/17 for international students applying to the MA in the Music program.

Scholarships will be awarded to applicants on a merit basis.

About the MA in Music

Are you a performer, composer, or music scholar (musicologist)? Cardiff University MA Music (http://courses.cardiff.ac.uk/postgraduate/course/detail/p428.html) is an opportunity to build your skills and challenge yourself both academically and musically.

The course is designed to be flexible, allowing you to tailor your program of study to best meet your personal career goals and ambitions.

You will be able to specialize in one of these areas:

  • Performance
  • Composition
  • Musicology (including Ethnomusicology and Popular Music Studies)

Cardiff School of Music

We offer rigorous teaching and musical training with staff who have international expertise in performance, composition, musicology, ethnomusicology, and popular music. We are ranked 2nd amongst UK University music departments for the quality of our research environment. We are situated within a capital city with a rich artistic culture. Cardiff is home to the world-renowned Welsh National Opera, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, a major BBC production center, and many other cultural organizations. You will find numerous opportunities for the practice, study, and enjoyment of music here, and the diverse range of musical activities on offer in Cardiff is both easily accessible and affordable.

Funding

This studentship is generously funded by School funds. It consists of a tuition fee discount of £1,500.

One studentship is available.

Additional funding to the value of £300 over the length of the candidature is available to support postgraduate students who wish to attend conferences, obtain research materials, record performances of their music or conducting relevant research away from Cardiff.

Eligibility

Academic criteria: We are seeking confident, innovative students with a record of achievement. Eligible applicants should have or expect to achieve a 2.1 undergraduate degree result (or international equivalent).

Residency: This studentship is open to students that are classed as International (non-EU) for the purpose of tuition fee status only.

In the research proposal section of your application, please specify the project title and supervisors of this project and copy the project description in the text box provided. In the funding section, please select "I will be applying for a scholarship/grant" and specify that you are applying for advertised funding from the School's International Elite Scholarship scheme.

The deadline for applications is 31 January 2016.

Cardiff University reserves the right to close applications early should sufficient applications be received.
