Age International Photo Competition

Publish Date: May 11, 2016

Deadline: Jun 05, 2016

Age International is on the hunt for a striking photo of an older person, taken outside of the UK.

Do you have a stunning snap of an older person, taken in another country? Do you want to be in with the chance of winning a photography class, courtesy of The Guardian, or a £500 Calumet voucher?

Whether they’re images showing the challenges older people face in developing countries or insights into later life globally, the theme ‘Strength For Life’ is open to interpretation, but Age International is looking for thought-provoking photos representing older people from all walks of life.

The competition is being supported by The Guardian and is free to enter, but donations are welcomed towards vital, life-changing work with vulnerable older people in some of the poorest countries in the world.

Entry

  • A photo which was NOT taken in the UK (images from developing countries are particularly welcome) showing an older person or persons.

  • A colour photo. We do not accept black and white, greyscale or sepia images

  • An image that is no more than 5MB in size. If you are selected as a winner, you must provide a full size image (at least 300 dpi)

  • Up to five photos - details on how to enter multiple photos are below

Prizes and judging

Win a photography class or £500 Calumet voucher!

Entries will be judged by a prestigious team of judges that includes the Photo Editor of The Guardian, Roger Tooth; award-winning Guardian photo journalist David Levene; and News Editor at Charity partner Silver Travel Advisor, Roger Bray.

There are two categories: Amateur and Professional. The Amateur category winner will win a photography class, courtesy of The Guardian.

The winner of the Professional category will receive a £500 voucher from Calumet Photographic. For the purposes of this competition, a professional photographer is someone who earns over 50% of their income from the sale of their own images.

Winning images will take pride of place in an exhibition in central London. They will also be displayed in an online gallery and a selection of photos will feature in Age International’s 2017 calendar.

This competition is only open to UK residents (of any age).
