Oxford Brookes International Poetry Competition 2021

Publish Date: Jul 04, 2021

Deadline: Sep 20, 2021

The Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre's International Poetry Competition celebrates the power of poetry across the world!

Please read the instructions below and then pay for your entries by visiting our online shop.

The competition is open annually to all poets aged 18 and over from across the globe and has two categories:

  • Open category (open to all poets aged 18 years and over)
  • English as an Additional Language (EAL) category (open to all poets aged 18 and over who write in English as an Additional Language)

The winners of each category will receive £1000 and both runners up £200.

We are delighted to say that this year's judge is the highly-acclaimed and award-winning poet Will Harris. You can find out more about Will below.

The competition entrance fee is £5 for each of your first three entries and then £4 for every subsequent poem. Entrants may submit a maximum of ten poems, following the instructions in the Oxford Brookes Online Shop. All entries must be unpublished work. Please read the full competition criteria and terms and conditions before entering. They are available on this page.

The competition opens for entries on Monday 21 June 2021 at 01:00 (UK time) and closes on Monday 20 September 2021 at 23:00 BST/22:00 GMT. The results will be announced in late October 2021 and we will e-mail all entrants to let them know about the winners and shortlistees.

There are two steps to entering the competition:

    1. Please visit the Brookes Shop and click on 'Book Event'. Then you can register as a new customer if necessary and pay for your entry/entries.

    2. Mark your entries either EAL or OPEN in the top right-hand corner of each entry and e-mail them, one poem per file, as Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx), Rich Text Format (.rtf) or PDF (.pdf) files to:  poetrycomp@brookes.ac.uk You may attach several poems to your e-mail, but please ensure that they are in separate files. Please also make sure that your name does not appear anywhere on the poem since the competition is judged anonymously. Thank you for your help with this process!

You will receive an automatic e-mail in response, confirming that we have received your poem/s. Please note that there is no entry form for this competition. The Poetry Centre will match the details you submit via the Shop with your e-mailed poems.

If you have questions about the competition, please consult our FAQs page. If your question isn’t answered there, contact us at: poetrycomp@brookes.ac.uk
