Workshop/CfP - Parole : Dante, 9-15 Ausust 2021, Germany

Publish Date: May 17, 2021

Deadline: May 31, 2021

Event Dates: from Aug 09, 2021 12:00 to Aug 15, 2021 12:00

5 scholarships for participation at the international translation workshop "Parole : Dante" (from August 9-15, in Schwalenberg/NRW/Germany) will be awarded to undergraduate and graduate students residing in Germany - preferably with good skills in German and Italian. Two scholarships are reserved for applications from students from the German and Italian project partners (Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich and University L'Orientale Naples).

The workshop is part of a cross-border translation project organized on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's death by the association "European Laboratory" (Schwalenberg), the German-Italian cultural association "ACIT Grimm" (Foggia) and the "Versatorium - Association for Poetry and Translation" (Vienna).

The starting point of the translation project are singular "Parole di Dante", which are published daily in 2021 by the "Accademia della Crusca" (Florence), consisting of an expression coined by Dante, a concise excerpt from the work and a brief explanation. The translation project is divided into two work phases: Until July, students from the University L'Orientale Naples, the University of Foggia and the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich will engage in a digital work process with selected "parole" and begin their own translations. The centerpiece of the project will be a workshop lasting one week, which will take place in Schwalenberg (NRW, Germany) from August 9 to 15, 2021, and to which the call for proposals refers. Here, fellows from the participating universities will meet with members of the translators' collective Versatorium from Vienna and the writers and translators Franz Josef Czernin, Andreas Hiepko, Esther Kinsky, Annette Kopetzki, Sibylle Lewitscharoff, Theresia Prammer, Luigi Reitani, Mathias Traxler, Alma Vallazza and Peter Waterhouse. The aim is not to find the one and only or a final translation, but to give space to the most idiosyncratic variants in the translation process and to present the different poetic appropriations, transformations and interpretations. The collective work will take place in conversations, readings, lectures and workshops. One group will focus on the literary traces of Dante in 20th century and contemporary German-language literature.

The fellowship covers participation, accommodation and lodging costs and provides a travel allowance.

An informal application with a curriculum vitae and one-page letter of motivation should be sent to info@eu-lab.de by May 31, 2021. Candidates will be notified by June 15, 2021.
