DOTS Summer School 2021
4-9 July 2021
Are you a STEM Teacher seeking to bring innovation to your school and looking to boost your professional development? The DOTS Summer School is focusing on STEM teachers’ transversal skills with an emphasis on methods, materials that would facilitate the transfer of such transversal skills to the students. The DOTS is organised in the framework of the Erasmus + project Development of Transversal Skills.
Pursuing the efficient teaching of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines is a continuous process of skill acquisition. The transition to becoming an effective professional entails much more than knowledge of content. It requires awareness and an effort to develop key professional skills necessary for success in any chosen career path. Transversal skills are personal competences that improve human performance, facilitate effective interactions, complement the technical requirements necessary to acquire and maintain employment. Teachers should play an important role in teaching and cultivating those transversal competences within the teaching of core subjects.
This staff training will offer to teachers the opportunity to acquire techniques for introducing inquiry and research-based teaching within the existing school curriculum. Training will introduce methods that build upon student curiosity about scientific research and matters, while simultaneously developing transversal skills and lateral thinking in students. Teachers will learn how to actively develop and implement teaching approaches to guide students to build their own knowledge and understanding and more importantly empower students with skills which are applicable in everyday professional and personal life regardless of their career choices.
