  • The Technical University of Denmark does not offer long-term scholarships in 2020/2021.

  • From 2020 the University of Copenhagen has introduced a minimum for cost-of-living grants for international PhD students throughout the enrolment period (currently a total of DKK 12,332 per month). General information

Scholarship period

Scholarships are tenable during the academic year. The autumn term begins on September 1st, the spring term on February 1st.

With respect to residence permits and/or visa, we recommend that accepted applicants contact the Danish diplomatic representation in their home country well in advance of their entry into Denmark.

Scholarship amount

Scholarships include free tuition and a monthly stipend of DKK 6,500.

Danish Government Scholarships can be used as a contribution to cover travel, visa fees, accommodation, food, and other living expenses. The scholarships are for one person only. Additional amounts for accompanying family members are not available.

Please note that living expenses in Denmark are generally high, and that housing, especially in the larger cities, is often very expensive. The scholarship will most likely not cover all expenses.

Some Danish higher education institutions may choose to charge a fee in conjunction with PhD courses.

Participants may be liable to pay tax on their scholarship in the Kingdom of Denmark. Therefore, scholarship recipients should contact the local tax authorities for an individual assessment. In the event that the Danish tax authorities decide that a scholarship is taxable, the Agency for Science and Higher Education has no power to overturn the decision.
