MD Fellowships
The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) awards MD fellowships of up to 18 months to outstanding medical students to pursue ambitious, experimental projects in basic biomedical research worldwide. Fellowship holders must study human medicine in Germany and change cities and institutions for at least ten consecutive months to work in an internationally renowned laboratory.
On top of the monthly stipend, we offer our fellows seminars, travel allowances, individual and personal support, and a worldwide network of fellows and alumni.
Who can apply for MD fellowships
The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) awards MD fellowships to excellent medical students studying in Germany who wish to pursue an experimentally demanding and hypothesis-driven research project in basic biomedical research in an internationally leading laboratory away from their home institution and city.
How to apply for MD fellowships
Applications for MD fellowships from the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) must be in English and must be written by the applicants themselves. However, we strongly recommend that applicants discuss their draft proposals with their scientific supervisors. Applications must reach the BIF at least three months prior to the planned change of location and start in the host laboratory.
Please submit your application electronically as a single password-protected PDF file (max. size 10 MB) and transmit the password separately. The PDF file must contain all the data and documents listed in 1 through 10 except the letters of recommendations. These can be included in your application or may be submitted directly by your supervisors.
