Advances in electrical engineering are driving a transformation in global technology. Electrical engineers design and build the hardware, networking, and sensing technologies that power smart devices and the Internet of Things.

The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering program from University of Colorado Boulder is centered around subjects such as embedded systems, power electronics, and photonics. These are the building blocks of cell phones, computers, electric and autonomous vehicles, renewable energy grids, LED lighting, advanced medical devices, and much more. The curriculum is influenced by CU Boulder’s close relationships with industry leaders and taught by world-class faculty in the electrical engineering field.

The curriculum is highly customizable — when fully developed, you will be able to choose from over 100, 8-week courses ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 credit hours. Each course is designed for fast, flexible learning. You'll tackle real-world problems, learn theory as well as career-relevant skills, and work with fellow students under the guidance of course facilitators and professors.

Who is this degree for

This online degree is intended to prepare students for senior engineering roles in industry. It is designed to be customizable and flexible to meet the needs of working professionals. The MS-EE on Coursera program is based on a long-standing and successful on-campus Professional MS in Electrical Engineering program at CU Boulder.

Graduates of the Professional MS in Electrical Engineering program have gone on to become engineers at Intel, Lockheed Martin, Tesla, Google, to name a few.

According to a recent survey from Deloitte, some 82% of executives in the semiconductor industry reported a shortage of qualified technical candidates; 60% of companies report that electrical engineering jobs are some of the most difficult to fill. The MS-EE on Coursera program will prepare you to take on these in-demand engineering roles.

Admission

Admission is purely performance-based; there is no application. Simply complete a series of for-credit courses in a “Pathway Specialization” with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (not less than 2.0 in any course). This “B” average qualifies you to be admitted into the degree program.

Not ready to commit now?

If you are not ready to commit to the full Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, you can enroll in the Non-Credit Specializations now and earn credit later. These non-credit courses will test your abilities and allow you to practice the skills required to pass the for-credit courses. You may upgrade from non-credit to for-credit courses at any time. Previously completed assignments will be automatically applied to your for-credit experience. To upgrade from non-credit to credit, you will need to pay tuition ($667 per credit) and complete the final exam with a 3.0 (B) grade point average or better.
