Killam Awards Visiting Scholar

The Killam Visiting Scholar Award provides sponsorship of a distinguished scholar who will make significant contributions to academic life at the University of Calgary. A visiting scholar is expected to participate in the research and teaching programs of the host department or faculty, as well as to engage in their own research.

The award consists of a stipend of $50,000 (Canadian), plus a research and travel allowance of $3,000 (Canadian). The visit should occur during the winter or fall term of the following academic year.

Note that the nominating academic unit must commit, in the nomination letter, to supporting the employer portion of the statutory benefits applied to the Visiting Scholar's appointment (e.g., vacation pay and non-health benefits).

STIPEND AND RESEARCH ALLOWANCE

The Killam Visiting Scholar receives a $50,000 CAD stipend (inclusive of statutory deductions) for one full term (either winter or fall), as well as a $3,000 CAD research and travel allowance. The Killam Visiting Scholar Award does not include health care coverage/benefits. Once awarded, funds will be held by the faculty member designated as host. The host’s academic unit is responsible forstatutory vacation pay and employer deductions, as well as any additional support or overexpenditure of the award accounts.
