HANS-ROBERT ROEMER FELLOWSHIPS FOR VISITING SCHOLARS

In memory of its founder and first director, Hans-Robert Roemer (1915-1997), the Orient-Institut Beirut awards 3-month fellowships to established scholars who have attained distinction in their fields and wish to make use of the facilities of the OIB to work on an article, research paper, or book free from other academic obligations. The fellowship covers free accommodation in a special guest apartment at the OIB and a monthly stipend of 300 EUR. Fellows with accommodation outside the OIB will receive an additional subsidy of 300 EUR per month. Applicants should pursue a project related to the general research agendas of the OIB and participate in the intellectual life of the institute.

HOW TO APPLY

Applicants should email (1) a letter of motivation, (2) a CV, and (3) an outline of their research project (ca. 1-3 pages) to the director of the OIB, Prof. Dr. Birgit Schäbler (schaebler@orient-institut.org). Applications are accepted by March 1 and September 1 of each year, but should be submitted at least six months prior to the proposed stay in Beirut.
