International Design Competition 2019 - Best in Design

Best in Design is an international contest for young designers. There are not only financial rewards from 200 € up to 4.000 € in the game, but it’s also a great opportunity to get a feedback, to compare yourself with young designers from all around the world, to show people what you can do and maybe to start your career. The only thing you need to enter the contest is your talent and courage.

Who may compete?

Both individuals and teams of designers may sign up, everybody has to be under 30. Authors may pull all their aces from the sleeve - number of works signed up is not limited. This game is also completely free.

Why you shouldn’t be afraid to risk and sign up?

Because risk is a profit and in Best in Design you cannot lose anything, just gain. The reward, experience, opportunities. You only have to show that design is your hearth affair.

What and how?

For your work to be accepted, you also have to upload an application. The gate will be closed at 31st of January.

4 Categories

You may be awarded in a one of four categories (Industrial design, Product design, Fashion design and Communication design) and strive for the Best in Design’s main price too.

Set of Rules

How?

Do not forget that the main factors are your creativity and originality of your submission. It is great to have an inovative and unusual approach to a solution, but functionality and usage of the material is also really important. Take into account that the enviromental compatibility also plays a role in decision making.

Who?

You can apply as a team or as an individual, whether you're a student or a novice designer. But you must not be older than 30 years old.

What?

For your work to be accepted, you also have to upload an application. Works completed prior to January 1, 2017 are not eligible for submission. Among the attachments,in addition to the application, you can not miss photos of the work in .jpg format and a text document with a brief commentary.

How many?

The number of applications you can upload is unlimited. Plus they are all free.

17th of February 2019 - APPLICATION DEADLINE
This date should definately be marked in your diary. Last chance to submit your work!

MEETING OF THE JURY
The meeting of the jury to evaluate the competition proposals will be held in the first quater of 2019.

3rd of May 2019 - WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT
We will all meet in the Congress Centre in Zlín at the grand finale of Best in Design to find out who won.

Industrial design

Design of machines and equipment, design of tools, transportation design, etc.

Product design

Large series product design, interior design and furniture, etc.

Fashion design

Clothing design, textile design, design footwear and accessories, jewelry design, etc.

Communication design

Graphic design and illustration, new media, visual communication and intermedia, web animation, etc.

Awards

MAIN PRIZE

For the best of the best we have the title of Best in Design 2017. Title providing indelible fame and reputation. Title that will open lots of doors. Title, which is associated with reward in the form of 4 000 € and an internship.

1ST IN EACH CONTEST CATEGORY

For the best of the best we have the title of Best in Design 2017. Title providing indelible fame and reputation. Title that will open lots of doors. Title, which is associated with reward in the form of 1 000 € and an internship.

2ND IN EACH CONTEST CATEGORY

The author of the second best work will receive a cash prize in the amount of €300.

3RD IN EACH CONTEST CATEGORY

The author of the third best proposal of each category will receive a prize of €100. 

Special Awards

It does not end with the TOP 3. The jury will also award the submissions that did not make it to the first places in categories, yet they reached a high quality standard. Money prize of €200 is awarded to two proposals in the following categories:

Award for Innovation – social, ecological, technological, material innovation across categories

Expert Award – the award is intended for authors of exhibitions, design theorists and authors of books, who significantly contributed to the internal debate in the field or mapping its history.
