Description of Innovation Camp

During the four day innovation camp (12 - 15 November, 2018), participants will share and gain in-depth understanding about the current state-of-art and existing challenges relating to circular economy business models. Grounded on a shared vision, the goal is to develop novel business model based on 1) sustainable consumption, 2) collaborative recycling/reusing and 3) co-creation of products and services for the four case industries.

A series of facilitated sessions utilizing a diverse set co-creation methods are applied to support and stimulate teamwork. Inspiring social events in Cracow during the camp will help recharge and inspire the creative power and getting to know other participants from across the world.

The co-creation activities during the camp days will be done in four main groups (a.k.a. tracks), each involving about 15 -20 persons. These four working groups will be founded on the basis of CIRC4Life case industries, while the co-creation activities within the groups, will be based on three business model development needs.

The case industries offer tangible and real-world ecosystem in which the business models can be practically incorporated. Due the different industrial setting, each group have different ecosystem constrains and opportunities. The cross-group development activities during the camp will help us to co-create the sustainable business models. Therefore each applicant needs to select their favourite group from the following alternatives:

GROUP 1: Domestic and industrial LED lighting

GROUP 2: Recycle and reuse of tablets

GROUP 3: Micro farm

GROUP 4: Meat product supply chain

At the first day, the camp will be started by understanding the problem and building the shared knowledge and vocabulary. Once we know each other and have gained common language, we can start developing competing solutions by utilizing different co-creation methods. The best ones will be rapidly prototyped and tested with the real people. The resulting fine-tuned concepts will be further developed and demonstrated at large scale by CIRC4Life project between 2019 and 2020 in the UK (Berkshire and Cornwall counties) and Spain (Valencia, Murcia and Basque country Regions).

How to apply and what are the requirements for the applicants?

We expect about 70 participants in total which consist from about 30 CIRC4Life consortium members and 40 external participants which are selected based on the following application process.

Language requirements. The official Camp language is English. It is expected that all participants are fluently and spontaneously able to express themselves in written and orally. Social interactions and co-creation tasks during the camp days will be done under tight time limit. Therefore, fluent English language skill is an absolute requirement.

Group composition. Each of the four case industry groups will include a diverse set of external experts. Therefore we are looking for (1) Cultural diversity by inviting geographically dispersed and culturally-mixed participants, (2) Organizational diversity by inviting participants from public, private, research/education sector organizations as well as consumers' representatives, (3) Cross-functional diversity by inviting participants which have different job profiles and (4) Disciplinary/cross-industry diversity by inviting participants from different industries and disciplines.

The external experts provide complimentary skills and knowledge, which the CIRC4Life consortium members are lacking.
