Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies Visiting Scholars Programme 2018, Canada

Publish Date: Aug 13, 2018

Visiting Scholars Programme

The Institute encourages scholars to visit Toronto and to avail themselves of its extraordinary library collections and resources. The Council accepts a number of applications each year (depending on available space for offices) from scholars having an appropriate doctorate or its equivalent who wish to pursue a specific research project in medieval studies. The period of tenure is normally one year, but renewals for a second year are possible.

The Status of Visiting Scholars

Visiting Fellows are scholars who have received a doctorate or its equivalent more than five years prior to the granting of Visiting Fellow status. Research Fellows are those accepted into the Licence in Mediaeval Studies and other scholars given this status by Council. Normally such scholars will have received a doctorate or its equivalent no more than five years prior to the granting of the status. Guests are doctoral candidates who wish to pursue research at the Institute for a time period of less than an academic year. These positions offer the use of the facilities of the Institute and, whenever possible, an office in the Institute or its research library.

Applications

The application form for visitors is available for downloading and can be completed as a PDF form. Copies are also available from the Registrar, and should be returned together with two letters of recommendation, by 15 January of the previous academic year. After hearing recommendations from the Committee on Associates and Awards, Council reports its decisions in early February. Applications and letters from referees should be sent to the Registrar, Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies, 59 Queen’s Park Crescent East, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5S 2C4.
