ADAMI’s Mission
The ADAMI Media Prize was created in 2015 to encourage filmmakers, journalists, and audio-visual media professionals in the EU Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine) to promote topics of migration, tolerance, and cultural diversity. The prize is open to broadcasters and audio-visual media producers in the six participating countries, and rewards outstanding TV, film, and online programmes which deal with diversity-related issues. Alongside the prize, ADAMI organizes several events for networking and fosters exchange among media professionals in Eastern Europe and the EU.
The ADAMI Media Prize celebrates diversity as a core value of our societies. It believes that media plays an important role in shaping public attitudes, and that by positively showcasing diversity, media can contribute towards peaceful coexistence between different groups in society.
Through this prize, the goal is to encourage the media to fight messages of hate and ignorance, and to create a platform for networking and exchange among media professionals in the region and Europe.
The word ADAMI derives from the Georgian word adamiani, for human being, based on the first human, the biblical Adam. And ADAMI is about people. Behind all TV programmes and media productions are people; they create and distribute images of people, made for people -- images that shape Europe's future.
Promoting the ADAMI Idea
Throughout the year, ADAMI organizes events promoting cultural diversity in the audio-visual media of the six participating countries. ADAMI’s country representatives are active in informing filmmakers, journalists, and online media professionals about the initiative; they hold press conferences, briefings, or lectures at universities and film schools, take part in TV talk shows and radio programmes. The ADAMI Media Prize Jury Sessions are a major networking event of the year, where every submission to the ADAMI Media Prize competition is judged by a jury panel of media experts, who also are brought into contact with journalists and civil society representatives of the hosting city of the jury sessions. Major public figures in the EaP counties and beyond are invited to attend the ADAMI Media Prize Gala Award Ceremony, where the winners of the prize are announced, and which is broadcasted live internationally. The gala is held in a different city with every edition of the prize, to strengthen awareness of the ADAMI idea across all the participating countries. In hosting city there are also ADAMI Talks - a format conducted in cooperation with universities to create a dialogue between media-makers and their audience. The ADAMI Forum events offer great networking opportunities, where nominated productions are discussed in a public debate, and where international professionals share their experience and media expertise.
But ADAMI’s activities don’t end there. Opportunities through ADAMI are abound, with presentations of winning films and websites at international film festivals, special screenings at public institutions like the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, and the possibility for a young journalist of winning the ADAMI Fellowship, a one-month fellowship at the French-German cultural TV channel ARTE, in Strasbourg.
Whether working to establish a network, building partnerships, or creating an archive on audio-visual media content on cultural diversity within the six EaP countries, the ADAMI idea is growing.
OPEN CALL for ADAMI Media Prize 2018
The competition is open to broadcasters, media professionals, journalists, filmmakers and producers in the six EU’s Eastern Partnership countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. The prize rewards outstanding TV, film, and online programmes which deal with topics on migration, integration, as well as the ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity.
The ADAMI Media Prize will be awarded in six categories.
An international jury of media professionals and experts will convene in October 2018, in Minsk (Belarus) to select the nominees and winners.
This is a unique opportunity for media professionals to showcase their audiovisual work and to connect with a network of broadcasters. Participants are eligible to win one of six €2000 cash rewards that will go to the winners of each category. In addition, every participant of the ADAMI Media Prize 2018 with journalistic experience in the Russian, German or French languages has the opportunity to apply for one of our ADAMI fellowships at Deutsche Welle (Berlin, Germany), MDR (Leipzig, Germany) and ARTE (Strasbourg, France).
The winners will be announced in November 2018 at a gala award ceremony held in Chisinau, Moldova, which will be broadcasted internationally.
Registration for the 2018 competition
The ADAMI competition opens on 01/02/2018. Registration for all categories must be carried out online.
The content of each entry must be briefly described. The summary of the content should be between 700 and 2,000 characters long. Summaries must be submitted in both English and Russian.
All co-production partners must be listed on the registration form. Co-productions will be considered as entries on behalf of the institution, which submits them. The consent of all co-producers to participate in the ADAMI competition is assumed.
The ADAMI Jury
An independent, international jury of leading journalists and media experts – proposed by the programme director and approved by the ADAMI advisory board - will select the nominees and prize-winners. The jury's decision is final without legal recourse.
