Visiting Postdoctoral Scholar Fellowships
The 2018-2019 fellowship application is now available on the Yale Grants and Fellowships website. Applications are due December 15.
Postdoctoral researchers from across the country and around the world are invited to apply for Beinecke Visiting Scholar Fellowships. These fellowships support scholars pursuing post-doctoral or equivalent research in Beinecke collections. Fellowships are offered for one to two months or for an entire semester and must be taken up between September and May. Students enrolled in degree programs and scholars residing within 100 miles of New Haven are ineligible.

For the period of September 1, 2018 through May 31, 2019
The Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library offers generous fellowships to support visiting scholars pursuing post-doctoral or equivalent research in its collections. Students enrolled in degree programs are ineligible. The fellowships pay for travel to and from New Haven and a living allowance of $4,000 per month, and are designed to provide access to the library for scholars who live outside the greater New Haven area. Fellowships must be taken up between September 1, 2018 and May 31, 2019. Recipients are expected to be in residence during the period of their award and are encouraged to participate in the activities of Yale University.
Short-term Postdoctoral Fellowships support scholars pursuing post-doctoral or equivalent research in Beinecke collections. Granted for one, two, or three months, fellowships must be taken up between September 1 and May 31. The fellowships pay for travel costs to and from New Haven and a living allowance of $4,000 per month.
(NEW!) Semester-long Postdoctoral Fellowships (new) are intended to support scholarly research within the Beinecke collections for the duration of an academic semester. Applicants for semester-long fellowships must hold a PhD by their intended start date. The fellowships pay for travel costs to and from New Haven and a living allowance of $20,000.
Successful applicants normally explain in extensive and specific detail the relationship of the Beinecke collections to their project and its significance within the larger field of scholarly concern. Most of the holdings of the Beinecke Library in printed materials are described in Orbis, the online catalogue of Yale University Library. Early manuscripts and modern archives are described in detailed finding aids available via the internet. Books and manuscripts at Yale have been extensively described since 1926 in the Yale University Library Gazette, which is available in many libraries.
All materials must be submitted by December 15, 2017.
