Publish Date: Oct 27, 2017

Deadline: Nov 15, 2017

Postdoctoral researcher in biology with a focus on molecular biology

The School of Science and Technology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in biology with focus on molecular biology, for a fixed-term appointment.

The post-doctor will be active in the molecular biology research group.

Duties and responsibilities

The tasks will primarily consist of research focusing on the development of molecular biology methods for studies on the ability of organisms to control their physiological functions (homeostasis) in response to environmental changes. The studies will be focused on how gene expression changes in response to changes in the environment. Methods that will be used include microarray analysis and RNA sequencing. The studies also require experience in using bioinformatics tools for gene expression analysis.

Eligibility

To qualify as a postdoctoral fellow, the candidate must have a doctorate in biological sciences, biomedicine, medical sciences or biotechnology from an internationally recognised University or equivalent institution. The doctorate must have been awarded within three years prior to the application deadline. Those who obtained degrees earlier may be considered if there are special reasons (absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, in trade unions or other similar circumstances).

Assessment criteria

We attach particular importance to the applicant's proven competence and demonstrated independence regarding the use of molecular biology methods and experience in working with model systems such as mice or zebrafish. In addition, experience of cell culture and studies of gene regulation in eukaryotic systems are of great importance. Additionally, experience in bioinformatics will be considered valuable. We also attach great importance to the ability to communicate research and research results in writing as well as verbally to an international audience.

Information

The position is full-time and limited to one year with a possibility of up to 12 months’ extension. The start date of the position is as soon as possible. Örebro University has an individual salary. Further information Professor Per-Erik Olsson, per-erik.olsson@oru.se , phone 004619-301244.
