Associate professor of Teaching English (English didactics)
A permanent position as Associate professor (SKO 1011) of Teaching English (English didactics) is vacant at the Department of Teacher Education and School Research (ILS). The position in question will involve research on, and the teaching of, topics relevant for English didactics and English teacher education in Norway.
The position will be linked to the teacher education programmes at ILS (full-time and part-time undergraduate teacher training programme (PPU) and PPU in the graduate teacher training programme (LeP), to the master level in LeP, and to the PhD programme. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department’s research through participation in one of the research groups; Studies of Instruction across Subjects and Competences (SISCO) or Teacher Professionalism and Educational Change; Practices, Purposes, Policies (TEPEC).
Description:
- Promote the development of Teaching English (English Didactics) through research, publication of academic work nationally and internationally, and participation in national and international networks.
- Participate in planning, teaching and supervision in Teaching English (English didactics) in education programmes, and contribute to the development of the educational quality of the programmes
- Contribute to the efforts of ProTed, the Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education
- Contribute to research dissemination targeted at both professional actors and the general public
- Administrative tasks
Qualifications
- The applicant must be able to document research competence linked to Teaching English (English didactics). The minimum competence requirement for the position of associate professor is a PhD in English didactics or equivalent academic qualifications.
- Experience from the education sector (schools, grades 8-13 and/or teacher training, grades 8-13)
- Documented knowledge of and familiarity with the Norwegian or the Scandinavian educational systems
- Basic teaching competence
- Advanced English proficiency, spoken and written
- Proficiency in Norwegian or the other Scandinavian languages
- Personal suitability and motivation
In the ranking of competent applicants, the whole range of qualifications will be considered, including the applicant’s ability to communicate and personal suitability. Emphasis will also be placed on the applicant’s experience and ability to attract research funding from external sources.
Applicants who are not competent in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish must acquire such competence within two years subsequent to their appointment.
Interviews will be used in the appointment process, and applicants will also be required to give a trial lecture in English.
