University of Oslo PhD Research Fellowship in Atmospheric Sciences

Position as PhD Research Fellow within modeling of biosphere-atmosphere interactions available at the Department of Geosciences, Section for Meteorology and Oceanography.

Project description

A Ph.D. Fellowship is vacant within modeling of biosphere-atmosphere interactions at the Section of Meteorology and Oceanography. The position is funded by the University of Oslo’s priority research area LATICE (“Land-ATmosphere Interactions in Cold Environments“), which is an interdisciplinary initiative within Earth System Sciences. For candidates with a good knowledge of a Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish), the fellowship will be for a period of 4 years, with 25 % compulsory work as Teaching Assistant. Otherwise, the fellowship will be for a period of 3 years, with no teaching duties

The Ph.D. fellow will carry out research aimed at an improved understanding of the role of biogenic emissions for secondary organic aerosols and tropospheric ozone. The biogenic emissions will be considered in relation to anthropogenic emissions, and there is a particular interest in investigating possible feedback mechanisms between climate change, biogenic emissions, aerosols and ozone damage to plants. An important research tool will be either the Norwegian Earth System Model (NorESM) or the WRF-CHEM atmosphere-chemistry model, both of which are being applied for climate studies within LATICE.
