University of Oslo PhD Research Fellow in Sociology
There is a vacant position at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography for a PhD research fellow (SKO 1017) in Sociology. The position is for a period of up to 4 years with 25 % compulsory work (primarily teaching at the Department).
Description
The PhD project should be related to the research topic Hate crime, hate speech and violence as defined by the C-REX centre at the Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Oslo. The position will be housed at and linked to the on-going activities at this centre, which includes more than 20 researchers. The project should make use of qualitative research methods, and the data collection should be based in Norway or comparatively in Norway and the UK. Because of data collection in one or both of these countries, fluency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language (and English) is essential.
Requirements
Applicants must have a master's degree/second-level degree in Sociology. The master's thesis must have been submitted before the application deadline. The applicant must provide a tentative description (approx. 5 pages) of a PhD research project that fits with the above mentioned criteria. The position requires that the person who is hired participates in the Faculty of Social Sciences' organised research education programme (PhD programme) and that the work results in a doctorate in Sociology. The successful applicant will automatically be admitted to the PhD programme.
The hiring process will include an interview. In addition to an overall evaluation of the applicant's grades, particular emphasis will be placed on the quality of the project proposal and the master's thesis. Reference is also made to the applicable guidelines for appointing research fellows at the University of Oslo.
Applicants must have native or near-native competence in a Scandinavian language and English.
