POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN THE LABORATORY OF MACROMOLECULAR DYNAMICS
Postdoctoral researcher position open from 1st August 2019 in the laboratory of Macromolecular Dynamics led by Dr Giuseppe Balistreri at the University of Helsinki, Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences. The research group is located in the Viikki campus of the University of Helsinki.
The aim of the project is to identify and characterize cellular regulators of human virus infections. The research lies, therefore, at the interface of cell biology and virology. The starting point of the work are genome-wide CRISPR screening approaches performed for selected pathogens, including respiratory and mosquito-delivered viruses. To follow up the results of the screens, the candidate will utilize state-of-the-art microscopy techniques, including high-content imaging, automated image analysis, artificial intelligence and super-resolution microscopy. In addition, an arsenal of biochemical and cell biology approaches will be routinely used in the lab. The main focus of the research is on membrane dynamics and regulators of protein synthesis.
The salary of the successful candidate will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The starting salary will be ca. 3100 - 3400 euros/month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. There will be a trial period of six months in the beginning.
