PhD fellowship in cosmochemistry and planetary sciences
The Centre for Star and Planet Formation at the GLOBE Institute is offering a three-year PhD fellowship in the field of cosmochemistry and planetary sciences. The PhD fellowship is available from July 1 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Our group and research
The Centre for Star and Planet Formation (Starplan) is a multidisciplinary research centre focused on understanding the formation of planetary systems, including the Solar System, using a multidisciplinary approach that combines astronomy, astrophysics and cosmochemistry. The main focus of this PhD research position is centered on elucidating the timescales and processes leading to the formation of the Solar System’s habitable plantary architecture by measurement of isotopic variations in extraterrestrial materials.
We seek a highly-motivated individual with a strong background in isotope geochemistry, preferably with experience in mass spectrometry and clean laboratory techniques, to join a dynamic research group and take full advantage of the state-of-the-art isotope facilities that the institution offers to pursue innovative research. These include thermal-ionization and multiple-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometers (Thermo Scientific Triton, Neptune and Neoma, respectively) as well as ultra-clean laboratories. The candidate must possess the credentials necessary to qualify for the PhD programme at the University of Copenhagen.
Your key tasks as a PhD fellow at the Faculty are to:
- Carry through an independent research project under supervision
- Write scientific articles and the PhD thesis on the grounds of your research project
- Complete PhD courses or other equivalent education corresponding to approx. 30 ECTS points
- Obtain experience with teaching or other types of dissemination related to your PhD project
- Participate in national and international conferences and scientific meetings.
The position is available for a 3-year period for applicants holding a relevant master´s degree.
The successful applicant will be requested to formally apply for enrolment as a PhD student at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences according to the rules stipulated in the Ministerial order on the PhD programme at the universities (PhD order) from the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Higher Education.
