PhD in Population Genomics

The Globe Institute, GeoGenetics Centre, Faculty of Sund at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD fellowship commencing 1 February 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The PhD project in Population genomics, will be part of the Centre's continuing research to better understanding of the historical processes that shaped present-day genomic diversity. The student will participate in genomic data generation and analysis from ancient human remains from around the globe, with a particular focus on South America.

Key criteria for assessment of applicants

Applicants must have qualifications corresponding to a Master´s degree related to the subject area of the project e.g.

The ideal candidate for this position has a strong biological background and experience in population genetics, molecular or evolutionary biology. In particular, knowledge and experience in next-generation sequencing data analysis, basic programming skills and a basic understanding of archaeological research in the Americas are crucial. Publications in the field of population genetics will be an advantage. Due to the Centre's international profile, it is required for the applicant to be fluent in written and spoken English. Moreover, given that, this project will involve a number of South American collaborators, basic Spanish or Portuguese skills are desirable.

Terms of employment

The employment as PhD fellow is full time and for 3 years.

It is conditioned upon the applicant´s successful enrolment as a PhD student at the Graduate School at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. This requires submission and acceptance of an application for the specific project formulated by the applicant.

The PhD study must be completed in accordance with The Ministerial Order on the PhD programme (2013) and the Faculty´s rules on achieving the degree. Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Depending on seniority, the monthly salary begins around 26.755 DKK/approx. 3.567 EUR (April 2018-level) plus pension.
