Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Marin Microbiology
At the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Bergen, Norway, there is a vacancy for a postdoctoral research fellow position within Marine Microbiology. The position is for a fixed-term period of 3 years with the possibility of a 4th year with compulsory other work (e.g. teaching duties at the Department). The position is subject to the externally funded project VirVar, Research Counsil of Norway (RCN).
About the project/work tasks:
The position is a part of the research project VirVar (Uncovering key players for regulation of phytoplankton function and structure: lessons to be learned from algal virus-haptophyte coexistence) which is funded by the Marinforsk program at RCN. The successful candidate will work with cultured algal virus host systems in laboratory experiments and field samples to provide basic knowledge of factors important for development of the different stages in an algal virus- host relationship and investigate how these different stages effect the diversity of the primary producers in the ocean.
Qualifications and personal qualities:
Applicants must hold a Norwegian PhD or an equivalent degree within microbiology, molecular biology, or bioinformatics or must have submitted his/her doctoral thesis for assessment prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded.
Understanding of marine microbial ecology and in specific viral ecology is an advantage.
Experience from molecular biology and bioinformatics is an advantage
Applicants must be able to work independently and in a structured manner, and have the ability to cooperate with others.
Applicants must have excellent skills in oral and written English
Personal and relational qualities will be emphasized. Research experience, ambitions and potential will also count when evaluating the candidates.Special requirement for the position. The position requires skills and motivation to work independently and engage in common research activities in the marine microbial group at the Department of Biological Sciences.
