About
Typography Summer School is a meeting place for graduates of graphic design, wanting to bridge the gap between student and professional and learn more about typography. The school brings together leading practitioners and participants to study, exchange ideas, and investigate the discipline.
As well as running a range of projects within typography, the school acts as a think tank encouraging research and dialogue. This environment provides a forum in which to discuss what typography is, its relevance in design history and the part it plays in today’s society. The school investigates the role of typographic design across ranging mediums, from books to film credits and posters to websites.
The school was founded by Fraser Muggeridge and is independent from any college or educational organization. This website is designed by Other Means.

Live projects with actual briefs, clients and budgets. With these constraints participants gain experience in how to work in a professional situation.

Teaching
Fraser Muggeridge and Other Means are joined by a visiting practitioner each day, from specialized areas of typographic design practice and educators at distinguished design schools. The 2017 tutors in New York will include Julian Bittiner, James Goggin, Other Means, Fraser Muggeridge, and more (to be announced soon). Bringing together a range of varied tutors will offer each participant a unique experience to learn from and apply to their future work.

Fees
$750 per participant, to be paid in full via electronic transfer upon receipt of acceptance and in advance of the course. Basic studio materials and lunch will be provided. Accommodation is not provided.
Apply
It is assumed that each applicant possess at minimum a bachelors degree level of eduction in graphic design, but all work will be assessed on its own merits.
Each participant should be familiar with the industry standard software packages (Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and be able to bring a laptop to the school.
