Guidelines

This competition is open to soprano, mezzo, tenor, baritone and bass with no age limit.
A maximum of 150 singers will be selected based on application and allowed to compete in Clermont-Ferrand in February-March 2017.
Registration is done only electronically, by using the online form. It is strongly recommended that you register before the deadline and not on November 15 2016, when the system could be overloaded and your registration may not be taken into account.

The registration file includes several sections to complete. Please note, your application will only be considered valid when all sections are properly completed. You will receive an email confirming the validation of your candidacy.

Selection

Selection is made based on a complete application with a video comprising 2 arias (opera or melody) recorded in 2016. The results of the selection process will be published no later than 9 January, 2017 on the website of the Competition and the Facebook page, as well as communicated via internet to each candidate with practical information about their participation.

The enrollment of selected singers must be confirmed by the payment of a fee in the amount of 60€ between 9 and 30 January 2017, paid by bank transfer to the account of the Clermont-Auvergne Lyrical Center. Beyond 31 January 2017, any applicant who has not paid this fee will be disqualified.

In case of cancellation by the candidate, for any reason, the fee will be retained by the Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne for administrative costs. In case of cancellation by the Lyrical Center, for any reason and at any time, the fee will be returned to applicants.

AUDITION PROCEDURE

All selected singers are expected on Monday, 27 February, 2017 at 18:00 at the Opéra-Théâtre for validation of their registration, followed by a drawing for the order of presentation at the trials, beginning at 19:00, and an official reception.

Pianists

Three piano accompanists are made available to singers for rehearsals and trials. No other private accompanist will be accepted.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals will be held at the Opéra-Théâtre de Clermont-Ferrand
28 February and 2 March 2017 / 9:30 - 13:30 and 17:00 - 19:30
3 March 2017 / 10:00 - 12:00 and 14:00 - 17:00

Trials

The trials are public. The order of presentation throughout the competition will follow the order from the drawing taken on Monday, February 27.

  • Eliminations
    28 February 2017 / 14:00 - 17:00 and 20:00 - 23:00
    March 1st 2017 / 14:00 - 17:00 and 20:00 - 23:00
    Each artist sings an aria selected by the Lyrical Center from the candidate's program and communicated during the validation of registration in January 2017. Total time: 10 minutes maximum
  • Semi-finals
    2 March 2017 / 14:00 - 17:00 and 20:00 - 23:00
    Each artist sings an aria selected by the jury from the candidate's program. Total time: 10 minutes maximum
  • Final
    4 March 2017 / 15 :00
    Each artist sings an aria or a duet selected by the jury from the candidate's program. Total time: 10 minutes maximum

Prizes

All finalists are housed by the Centre lyrique on 3 and 4 March 2017 at the Kyriad Centre Hotel, partner of the International Competition.

Professional engagements will be the subject of signed contracts between the selected artists and

  • The Centre lyrique for performances and concerts in Clermont-Ferrand,
  • The various partners of the Centre lyrique for works in distribution.

Each singer will certify, on his or her honor, to be free of any and all other engagement during the times of rehearsals and concerts provided by the Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne. The lack of participation in rehearsals and concerts, for whatever reason, constitutes cancellation of the contract.

The artists selected at the end of the Final are committed to the following conditions, including the agency commission (euros):

Special Prizes

  • « Bernard Plantey » AUDIENCE AWARD
    In honor of the founder of the Centre lyrique and with a value of 1 000 €, this prize will be awarded to a finalist nominated by public vote on 4 March, 2017 and will be presented by Guillaume Brun, director of the Hotel Mercure, partner of the Clermont-Auvergne Lyrical Center.
  • « City of Clermont-Ferrand » YOUNG AUDIENCE AWARD
    Valued at 1 000 €, this prize will be awarded to a finalist chosen by the vote of a jury of young people participating in mediation activities of the Lyrical Center in 2017, and will be presented by Isabelle Lavest, town councillor for cultural policy in the city of Clermont-Ferrand.
  • The FRENCH CENTER for LYRICAL PROMOTION AWARD
    Valued at 1 000 €, this prize will be awarded to a young French artist and will be presented by Raymond Duffaut, President of the French Center for Lyrical Promotion.
  • « Royaumont Foundation Winner » AWARD
    With a value of 1 000 €, this prize will be awarded to a young artist and will be presented by Edouard Fouré Caul-Futy, Artistic Director of the Voice Program and Stage Unit at the Royaumont Foundation. This award will be complemented by the offer of recital training in the 2017 season of the Royaumont Foundation, including four days of residence in the company of a young pianist and a recital on 7 or 8 October 2017.

Jury

Appointed by the Administrative Council of the Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne, and chaired by Raymond Duffaut, the jury is composed of international personalities from the world of opera, theater and music. Its decisions are final. A juror who may be the instructor of a competing artist is not allowed to participate in the deliberations or in the voting concerning the artist.

Disttribution of shows and concerts

The Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne and its partners are committed to promoting the distribution of works auditioned in Clermont-Ferrand. Each artist will be kept regularly informed of scheduled concerts. The availability of artists will be taken into account. The Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne or any representative named by him has the right to photograph and to film the candidates for the duration of the Contest. In case of dispute, only the French version of this Regulation will be legally valid. Participation in the contest implies the unconditional acceptance of this Regulation.
