SUMMER SCHOOL OF ORAL HISTORY PRAGUE 2016
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
September 5th - September 13th 2016 (travel dates are not included) Prague, Czech Republic
Summer School of Oral History, under the patronage of Faculty of Humanities of Charles University in Prague, aims to introduce students from all over the world to the newest trends and procedures of oral history, as well as to its theoretical aspects and practical impacts of new media and technology on oral history.
Through practical workshops we will show students how to conduct an oral history interview, how to analyze and interpret it, and also how to archive collected data. Our goal is to establish certain theoretical, methodological, ethical and archival standards of oral history.
If you decide to attend the Summer School of Oral History in Prague this year, you will meet with renowned oral historians, for example:
- Rob Perks (United Kingdom)
- Alexander von Plato (Germany)
- David King Dunaway (USA)
- Monika Vrzgulová (Slovakia)
- Miroslav Vaněk (Czech Republic)
- Pavel Mücke (Czech Republic)
and other teachers from our Department of Oral History - Contemporary History.
All lecturers will present newest findings of their own research and they will participate in work meetings with students regarding their own student projects.
We welcome students whose focus is History, Ethnology, Anthropology or Folkloristics on Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. level of study.
All students will present their own projects, finished or ongoing, within approximately 10-15 minutes with follow-up discussion.
By successfully attending the Summer School of Oral History, you can obtain 6 ECTS credits.

Application and Fees
If you would like to apply fo Summer School of Oral History, please send the following documents (all in English):
- application form (as a text document and a signed and scanned version too),
- motivational letter,
- scanned version of the proof of current enrolment at university
to Jana.WohlmuthMarkupova@fhs.cuni.cz by April 30, 2016.
Selected participants will be notified within two weeks after the registration deadline along with payment information.
All students will present their own projects, finished or ongoing, within approximately 10-15 minutes with follow-up discussion. Please do not forget to submit the title of your presentation in your application form.
By successfully attending the Summer School of Oral History, you can obtain 6 ECTS credits. We will prepare transcripts that you will need for your home university, but before counting with these 6 credits for your summer semester, please consult it with your Student's Administration Office.
Tuition fee: 250 €
The fee includes lectures, workshops and seminars, registration, welcome and farewell program, 7 lunches.
All other costs (transport, accommodation, most of the meals) are covered by students themselves. Upon request, the organizer can arrange accommodation at Charles University dorms.

Saturday and Sunday (10.-11.09.): walking tours or day trips (optional and not included in the tuition fee; to be planned on the first day of Summer School)
Monday (12.09.): lectures, seminars and workshops
Tuesday (13.09.): lectures, seminars and workshops, farewell dinner
Wednesday (14.09.): individual departure
Transport and Accomodation
Transport and accomodation are not included in the tuition fee, both are covered by the students themselves. However, we are able to arrange your accomodation at Charles University dorms. If you are interested in this option, please tick the relevant box in your application form.
