Residential Fellowship 2017 - Migration, Exile, Displacement, The University of Texas, USA

Publish Date: Dec 15, 2016

Deadline: Jan 15, 2017

About the fellowship

The IHS expects to appoint resident fellows for 2017-18 whose work engages with the year's theme of Migration, Exile, Displacement.

Fellowships are available for all ranks.  They are not restricted to historians, but projects must have significant historical content.

Please note the following changes to the fellowship program as the terms are different from previous years.

Tenure-track and tenured faculty

Fellowships for tenure-track and tenured faculty will provide stipends equal to half salary for the academic year (9 months).  Applicants may combine IHS fellowships with sabbatical funds, other support from their home institutions or external grants.  (Total funds may not exceed academic salary for the year of the fellowship.)

UT Austin is unable to pay fellows' salaries through their home institutions. We are required by university policy to pay fellows directly.

Post-doctoral and independent scholars

Fellowships for post-doctoral and independent scholars will provide 12-month salaries of $47,476 per year and medical insurance. Junior fellows must have Ph.D.s in hand no later than December 31 of the year preceding the year of the fellowship.

Expectations for Fellows

Fellows must be resident in Austin during the term of their appointment and are expected to participate actively and regularly in the institute's programming. Each fellow will present a pre-circulated paper at the institute's workshops. Fellows may also be invited to participate in other programming at The University of Texas at Austin.
