Researcher in Philosophy at the University of Oslo

A 50 % limited-term 4-year position as researcher, postdoctoral level (code 1109), within the field of philosophy is available at Department of Philosophy, Classics, History of Art and Ideas

The position is affiliated with the project “Conceptual Engineering" (http://www.hf.uio.no/ifikk/english/research/projects/cl/) The researcher will work specifically with the part of the project that focuses on the engineering of practical, social and legal concepts with a special emphasis on concepts relevant to the defense sector and the press. An important aim of the project is to show that conceptual engineering can have societal impact and bring about actual changes in policy making, activities and practices. The researcher is expected to contribute in an active manner to such impact.

Requirements

  • PhD in practical philosophy
  • Documented research experience that is relevant to the project
  • Experience with societal impact in the relevant fields
  • Personal suitability and motivation for the position

The doctoral dissertation must have been submitted for evaluation before the application deadline.

In the evaluation of the applications, emphasis will be placed on:

  • the project’s scientific merit, research-related relevance and innovation
  • the applicant’s estimated academic and personal ability to carry out the project within the allotted time frame an contribute to the main project
  • good co-operative skills, and the ability to successfully join in academic collaboration within and across disciplines.

  • Project description (approximately 3-5 pages). The project description must present a feasible progress plan. It is expected that the applicant will be able to complete the project during the period of appointment.
