Study renewable energy at one of the leading universities in Germany
The nation of Germany is a leader in renewable energy systems, and it is innovating rapidly in the areas of climate change and geopolitics. This intensive program offers a thorough examination of wind, solar, geothermal and biomass processes as the German people adapt to rapid climatic changes. It also provides a historical and sociocultural framework for understanding these processes. The program will start with a large-scale perspective on energy policies and global actors, such as UN agencies and NGOs, along with worldwide associations and large corporations. You’ll then be introduced to the European Union's approach and visit the European Commission in Brussels.
The focus of the program will be on the U.S. and Germany’s efforts in the field of renewable energy, and look at concrete examples of local action in Bonn.
You'll have the opportunity to participate in a group project guided by project advisors who come from the field.
All courses are conducted in English. Knowledge of German is not a prerequisite. The program does not include a course on German language.
A one day workshop on German culture and language is included in the local orientation.
During your final week, you’ll get the chance to use what you’ve learned over the duration of the program to ask informed questions and discuss relevant topics with politicians, practitioners and researchers while in Berlin.
This program was developed in cooperation with the Initiative for Sustainability and Energy at Northwestern University (ISEN).
