Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Middle East Studies

The Institute for Middle East Studies (IMES) at the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs invites applications for the position of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Middle East Studies.

Fellows may come from any discipline in the social sciences or humanities, as long as their primary substantive specialization is in the Middle East/North Africa (to include Iran and Turkey). Candidates must have their Ph.D. in hand before submitting their application, and must be in residence at IMES for the duration of the fellowship period. The fellowship begins September 1, 2016 and the successful candidate can choose to extend the fellowship period to two full academic years (through May 31, 2018).

The fellow’s primary duties are to complete a substantial research project. S/he will also be expected to teach one graduate (MA) seminar in the Fall and advise one MA student capstone project in the Spring. The topic of the seminar will be tailored to the interests of the fellow.  S/he may also request IMES funding to organize a workshop or series of meetings with an eye toward developing academic publications.

This position offers an annual salary of $50,000, medical benefits, a $2,000 annual research stipend, access to the GW library system, a computer, and office space
