Ph.D. student in Magnetic bead-based purification for biologics production
KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Biotechnology
KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as in architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.
Job description
A new Competence Centre, AdBIOPRO, Competence Centre for Advanced Bioproduction by Continuous Processing is starting in July 2017 under the leading of KTH, in collaboration with Lund University and Karolinska Hospital as well as seven Swedish companies in the Biopharmaceutical/Biotech industry. The Centre will focus on bioproduction based on mammalian/human cells with the objective to respond to the paradigm shift in this industry towards continuous process. The group of Cell Technology (CETEG) in the Div. Industrial Biotechnology/Bioprocess Design - School of Biotechnology at KTH, who will be leading AdBIOPRO, has a strong experience in the development of biopharmaceutical drug bioprocesses for human therapy. CETEG's activities include bioprocessing of high cell density perfusion, metabolic flux analysis modelling and fed-batch process development for industrial biopharmaceutical manufacturing based on mammalian cells, as well as human human stem cell culture.
A position for PhD program is available at CETEG in the domain of magnetic bead based purification for biologics production, including integration with continuous mammalian cell cultivation in bioreactor. The practical work will be performed at KTH, AlbaNova Centre, Roslagstullsbacken 21, 10691 Stockholm.
Qualifications
A qualified candidate will hold a master degree in engineering in Biotechnology or equivalent. Experiences of the followings are strong advantages: antibody purification by chromatography-based process, development of biopharmaceutical purification process by magnetic beads, culture of established mammalian cells including culture in bioreactor. The candidate should be highly motivated for doing scientific research, should have well developed analytical and problem solving skills and be capable of team working.
