The MFA Program will offer the following fellowships for 2016-2017
The Margaret L. Whitford Fellowship : This Fellowship carries a full-tuition remission for two years. This Fellow will be expected to take a leadership role in the MFA student organization.
Teaching Assistantships : We offer a limited number of teaching assistantships that carry a $9,000/year award. Duties may include assisting professors with undergraduate creative writing classes, teaching in the Chatham Words Without Walls program in the Allegheny County Jail, and possibly work in the writing center. These assistantships are for two years.
Robert H. Mansell Teaching Assistantship : This one-year teaching assistantship carries a $9,000 award and is specifically designed for an incoming student who will work in the Words Without Walls program. Depending on funding, this Assistantship could possibly be renewed for a second year.
The Fourth River Fellowship : This Fellowship carries a $10,000 award for one year to fulfill duties as managing editor of The Fourth River literary journal. May be renewed for a second year.
Newsletter Editor and Social Media Coordinator Assistantship: This Assistantship carries a $10,000 award for one year with the possibility of applying again for the second year. Duties involve providing content for and designing the monthly and annual MFA newsletter as well as social media, and assisting the MFA Program Director as needed. May be renewed for the second year.
Research Assistantships : We offer two Research Assistantships that each carry a $5,000/year award. Responsibilities may include providing support for research and creative activity of faculty or projects of the MFA program, as well as researching and assisting with grant proposals for the program or individual faculty members. These assistantships are for two years.

Eligibility
Candidates must be eligible to apply for early admission (i.e., have a 3.5 overall GPA).

Deadlines & Dates
Please note that applications completed after January 15th will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Early Application and Fellowship Application: if you wish to be considered for early admission and for one of our fellowships, we must receive all of your materials by this date. - February 15, 2017
Early admission applicants will be notified of their admission, and finalists for the fellowships will be notified - February or March 2017 (Date TBD)
Interview day for fellowship finalists and open house for admitted MFA students. We will sponsor a tour of the campus, lunch, and meetings with MFA faculty. - April 8, 2017
Fellows and runners-up will be notified by this date. - April 30, 2017
Fellows must notify us of their acceptance of the fellowship by this date or we will give the fellowship to the next person on our list.
