PhD student (m/f/d)
Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP), Berlin
The Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) belongs to the „Forschungsverbund Berlin e. V. (FVB)“. The FVB is an institution of eight natural sciences research institutes in Berlin funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and the association of its federal states. The research institutes are members of the Leibniz association.
The research group of Structural Interactomics (led by Dr. Fan Liu) at the FMP and the Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens (the Charpentier lab) is seeking for a joint
PhD student (m/f/d) in Crosslinking Mass Spectrometry
(Ref. 07/2019)
The position is available as soon as possible and is limited to 3 years.
Job description
The Liu lab is interested in using multi-disciplinary approaches that combine proteomics, cross-linking mass spectrometry, molecular biology, structural biology and bioinformatics to investigate the organizational aspects of protein assemblies and their biological consequences in the cell. The Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens is an international research institute currently being established in Berlin and whose research focuses on basic biological principles in bacterial pathogens. Overall aims of the Unit’s research are to gain a better understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms that control and regulate bacterial infectious processes.
The scope of this position is to develop novel XL-MS tools to investigate the interactomes of bacteria and host-pathogen interactions. We provide an international, innovative and interdisciplinary work environment, with access to state-of-the-art mass spectrometry platforms as well as many other infrastructures at the FMP and the Max Planck Unit for the
Qualifications
The candidate should have a master degree in biology, biochemistry or relevant fields. We are looking for an independent, responsible, reliable, and flexible scientist with a high personal motivation to excel in science. Candidates with a strong interest and experience in mass spectrometry and proteomics techniques, infection biology, biochemistry and/or informatics are especially encouraged to apply. An excellent command of the English language is required.
Salaries will be based on TVöD Bund (65 % position). In 2013 the institute has been awarded the certificate of the audit Beruf und Familie as family-friendly employer.
