The School aims to develop a dialogue about the present and future of computational science, and major application aspects of computer modeling and simulation aiming to solve a wide range of problems of science, industry and business.
Simulation and systems thinking is one way to explain the complex world in which we live. By collecting data and creating computer models, scientists can make predictions on critical problems, such as how to influence the flow of traffic, how an epidemic will spread or the probability of individuals in society becoming addicted to drugs. The School will cover the aspects related to mathematical modeling, high performance computing, data-driven modeling and simulation, large scale simulation of complex systems and offers an ideal range of topics for final year Master’s student or starting PhD students interested in these topics.
Scope
The YSC-2015 invites young scholars for all topics related to Computer Modeling and Simulation, including, but not limited to:• Mathematical modeling of complex systems
• Modern numerical analysis and their applications
• Modeling and simulation in probability and statistics
• Computational technologies for modeling and simulation
• Problem-oriented software and virtual environments
• Systems, methods and models based on the data
• Modeling in urban, social and life sciences
Events
Key conference events:• Guest lectures of the world leading scientists:
Requirements
To participate in the competitive selection one should present the following documents (in the pdf format to Faye Gotlieb by e-mail faye.gotlieb@gmail.com);
• Extended Abstract of his/her contribution in the English Language (please download the document's template by the link
• Motivation Letter (200-300 words)
Reports and publications
Participants of the conference should present a detailed abstract of their contribution in the format of extended abstract – from 500 to 600 words in the English language.
The best presentations will be recommended for decoration on behalf of organizers of the School.
Besides the applicants who participate in the competitive selection for the conference, coauthors (not necessarily young scientists) are also allowed be part of the abstracts.
Support in preparation and publication in peer reviewed high-level scientific journals:
- Journal of Computational Science
- Future Generation Computer Systems
will be given to the winners of the competitive selection - during the event.
Requirements for participation
Students of Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programs, young researchers of the leading academic institutions and industrial organizations are invited to take part in the School. Selection will be based on the results of the extended abstract competition.
Competitive selection
Applications’ procedure will be open till May, 1, 2015. The competition committee will provide the results of the competition till May, 4, 2015. Results of the competition will be published on the School's website.
Conditions
School sessions will be held at the National Technical University of Athens.
Participation in the School is free of charge.
Financial support
All participants, winners of the open competition, may be provided with the grant for transportation expenses (airfare) and housing. Coffee breaks and lunches are offered during the conference working days. At request the organizers of the Conference provide personal Visa Support letter. The price of the Schengen visa, insurance and fees for using local transportation in Athens, Greece are at the expense of participants.
