INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL FOR FUTURE INTERNET SERVICES

On 26 June – 30 June 2017, Karlstad University organises a summer school with a focus on the control and management of network traffic and latency linked to future network services in multiple cloud-based environments.

Internet services are becoming a greater part of our daily lives and the more complex the service, the higher the demands placed on the systems and networks behind the services.

”The development of network services is moving towards virtualisation and multiple cloud-based environments. This means that more and more services are linked through functions in many different systems and that large volume of data are transported between the systems,” says Andreas Kassler, professor in computer science and one of the summer school organisers.

The present technology lacks efficient ways of managing and controlling the networking and latency aspects. However, for new services that are placed in or controlled from the Cloud, latency is becoming more and more crucial, for example, autonomous cars or future industrial control systems. This is the background to ”ACRO 2017 - International Summer School on Latency Control for Internet of Services” designed for PhD students and early stage researchers studying communications and cloud computing or related areas

”The challenge ahead, at all system levels, is to develop methods and algorithms that allow to manage and control the latency for future networked services in multiple cloud-based environments. This is challenging due to the large volume of data that is needed to be stored, processed, transmitted and analyzed”, says Andreas Kassler.

PhD students and junior researchers from the whole world are invited for a week of developing practical and theoretical skills in the focus area. The summer school will provide lectures by international experts, hands-on labs, and poster presentations by participants.

”Summer schools are important elements in a postgraduate training and for us in Karlstad it is important to organise the event. It gives us a chance to show our environment to experts and researchers from all around the world,” says Andreas Kassler, ”Our PhD students get the opportunity to learn from international expertise in their research areas and build networks with other researchers and doctoral students around the world.”

ACRO 2017 is organised by COST Action ACROSS on Autonomous Control for a Reliable Internet of Services with the support of the KK funded projects READY, A Research Environment for Advancing Low Latency Internet and HITS, High Quality Network Services in a Mobile World.
