International Development Youth Forum
Since its establishment in 2012, IDYF has provided opportunities to create solutions to International Development problems, through discussions among youth from every part of the world.
In IDYF2016, we aim to find effective and feasible solutions. We strongly hope our participants will apply their experiences obtained in IDYF2016 to overcome problems faced in their respective countries.
We aim to create a better future based on diversified values and experiences of youth from both developed and developing countries. We aim to empower youth, who are to become the leaders of the future, by finding solutions to the problems of developing countries, through discussions with their peers from different backgrounds.
Pekalongan is one of the cities in Central Java Indonesia. Industries of Batik, traditional art drawn in fabric, industry drive the economy in the town of Pekalongan. However, chemicals disposed into canals by this industry cause many problems in society, especially in the field of environment and health.
Though this issue itself is a local one, the discussion around this issue is universal; every country is facing the problem of Environmental Protection vs Industrial development. In the discussion, participants are expected to share their experience on this issue. In the process of creating solutions for Pekalongan, you will be able to deeply understand the situation in other countries and your country, and hopefully find ways to tackle YOUR problem.
Participants will tackle this issue in group working, and one person from the region will participate in each group.
In this summer, we held “Agenda Setting” to decide the development problem we tackle in the discussion of IDYF2016. Agenda Setting was aimed to decide the theme of the discussion of IDYF2016, and we received a lot of applications in this selection process. From those thousands of development issues, we chose ONE problem as the theme of the discussions of IDYF2016; River pollution caused by Batik industry in Pekalongan, Indonesia. The participants of IDYF 2016 will aim to create solutions for this problem.
It was decided that the team which submitted this problem to IDYF2016 team would be joining in the discussion in IDYF2016 in Tokyo, and provide real information on this issue to create feasible and effective solutions.
In “Member Selection”, we select participants for the program of IDYF 2016.
If you pass this stage of selection:
- you will become a participant of IDYF 2016 held in Tokyo, March 2016.
- you will be expected to participate in the discussion in order to create solutions to the problem selected in “Agenda Setting”; River pollution caused by Batik industry in Pekalongan, Indonesia.
