Our students in Years 12 and 13 (Key Stage 5) embark on the challenges of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma that sees them receive places at some of the top universities in the world.

The IB is designed as an academically challenging and balanced programme that prepares students for the transition into university.

The best universities now demand more than academic success and so we provide our students with a platform to gain the extra skills required to meet these high standards.

Our teachers, all of whom possess UK Qualified Teacher Status and who are all native English speakers, are on hand to provide guidance but also encourage students to learn self-organisation. Our staff ensure each student receives the support to fulfil their potential with extensive experience on university guidance, time management, support and encouragement.

IB Diploma Programme students study six subjects (three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level). Students choose subjects that ensure breadth of experience in languages, social studies, the sciences and mathematics with an additional choice of a subject in the arts.

All students are required to complete the Extended Essay, which encourages independent research, and the Theory of Knowledge course that allows each student to reflect on the nature and acquisition of knowledge. The Creativity, Action and Service Programme require that students actively learn from the experience of doing real tasks outside of classes.

Many former Regent’s students have attend universities including Oxford, Cambridge and Cornell as widely spread as the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia and Hong Kong and further see success in their chosen career paths.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a challenging two-year curriculum, primarily aimed at students aged 16 to 19. It leads to a qualification that is widely recognised by the world’s leading universities.

Students learn more than a collection of facts. The Diploma Programme prepares students for university and encourages them to:

  • ask challenging questions
  • learn how to learn
  • develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture
  • develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures.

A student entering the Sixth Form needs to undertake a full programme of study. This consists of six elements:

Group 1: Language and Literature English Thai
Group 2: Language Acquisition

Group 3: Individuals & Societies

Business Management

Group 4: Experimental Sciences

Sports Exercise & Health

Design Technology

Group 5: Mathematics Mathematics
Group 6: The Arts

Visual Arts

It is also compulsory for students to participate in: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) and Extended Essay (EE).

A modified programme is available to students for whom the full Diploma is unsuitable.  Alternative programmes may lead to qualifications which provide access to universities and Thailand and overseas

Our Sixth Formers are highly revered members of the school and all have the opportunity to use their time as Regent’s Sixth Formers to develop valuable leadership skills on their journey towards becoming independent, global citizens.

They take on the role of ‘school ambassadors’ for younger students as they offer a helping hand and valuable advice.

Regent’s Sixth Formers have a tendency to be active and engaged individuals who play a huge role in the happenings of many of the events that take place in the school. This leaves them with the ability to organise and lead - both incredibly valuable traits that they go onto use later on in life.

The IB Diploma is described by many as one of the most challenging and rewarding pre-university courses currently available worldwide.

This is one of the reasons our students form lifelong friendship bonds as they overcome challenges together and create an environment that they all feel comfortable in.

Our Sixth Formers have their own Suite which includes a study room and a room for the purpose of relaxing and socialising with their peers.

If you decide to apply for a place for your son or daughter at The Regent’s International School, Bangkok, our Admissions team are here to help guide you through the process.

You will need to complete our Application Form (link into form) and pay an application Fee of 5,500THB.  Please note, this is not a commitment on your part to accept a place, nor does it represent a formal offer from the school.  Your application can either be:

  • Submitted on the day of your initial visit
  • Returned by e-mail, with the Application Fee paid by bank transfer; or
  • Submitted to the Admissions Office on the day of Assessment.

In order to complete the application, there are several additional documents, which we require from you before your son or daughter can be assessed;

  • A photocopy of your child’s birth certificate or passport

The Assessment takes place with school by appointment, although in some circumstances it may be possible for the assessment to be sat in a family’s country of residence where that is outside of Thailand.  The Admissions team will be happy to advise you.

In most cases, the assessment is as follows:

  • Early Years (Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception) will stay in the appropriate class/year level for approximately 1 - 2 hours as a trial session.  This appointment includes a period of time in the classroom to ensure that your child is ready to start school – there is no formal testing.  It is a requirement that your child is toilet trained and is no longer bottle or breast feeding to be considered for a place.
  • Primary candidates (Y1 – Y6) will spend two days with appropriate class/year level from 8.00am – 2.30 pm for assessment process.  On these Trial Days, parents/guardian will leave their child/ren with us for the whole period of time as a normal school day.
  • Secondary candidates (Year 7+) will be tested in Mathematics, English and Non-Verbal Reasoning (also Science for Year 12 candidates).  The candidates will have an interview with a Senior member of staff who shall provide direct feedback to parents.  The whole process will take up to 4 hours.

A Boarding Placement (Year 4+) the applicant will be interviewed by one of our Boarding team.

We aim to send you written confirmation that we can offer your son\daughter a place at Regent’s within 72 hours of the assessment.  In the case of a student applying to enter the IB Diploma course (Year 12), the offer of a place will be conditional on the student gaining appropriate grades in his or her public examinations.  In the case of students who are sitting GCSE examinations, this would be five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C.

If you wish to accept the offer of a place at the school, we ask that you do so within two weeks of receiving the formal offer letter.  Your child’s place will only be guaranteed if you have paid the non-refundable Enrolment Fee within two weeks of being offered a place.  If you choose not to pay the Enrolment Fee and that Year Group becomes over-subscribed your child’s place maybe offered to another pupil.
