Scientific illustration is here to stay!
Il·lustraciència aims to disseminate the importance of science illustration and pushes it in all its forms, supporting science illustrators and rewarding them through the convening of the International Award for Scientific Illustration. There will be a collective exhibition and catalogue with the 40 selected works of each edition. Alongside the Award, there will be different activities such as exhibitions, courses, workshops and conferences, among others. If you are interested in applying for the exhibition consult the conditions in the exhibitions section. The competiton is organised by the Catalan Association of Science Communication. Each participant may submit only one illustration. The subject of the illustration must be related to science or nature and the technique is free.
All work teams or individuals aged over 18 years old may participate in this Award regardless of the country of residence. The winner of the previous edition, the organizing committee and the members of the jury are excluded from this call.
How to Enter
Each participant is able to submit only a single work. The day January 11 will activate the web form. In case of taking part as a team all members shall indicate their names. The work must have been created between January 2015 and March 15th, 2016. The subject of the illustrations must be related to science or nature and the technique is free. The proposals must not include watermarks or text. The proposals shall enclose a description of it of about 150-200 words in Spanish, Catalan or English. The participant must fill in the registration form of the website www.illustraciencia.info and subsequently send the proposal at high resolution in PDF format, to be printed on A3 (420 x 297mm) 300 dpi, by email to email@example.com.
When formalizing the participation, contestants will have the option of the work to be published by a free Creative Commons License (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License), as Wikimedia Commons file for use in Wikipedia and other free cultural projects like WikiArS (Wikipedia Arts in School).
The participating images cannot be sent nor have been sent to other competitions or awards that are held simultaneously. Similarly, the works submitted to the contest must not be subjected to evaluation or opinion on any publishing until the jury’s opinion is issued. Otherwise, they will be disqualified.
The competition is free to enter.
The author of the winning illustration will receive 600 €.
The author of the work selected by the audience will receive 200 €.
