1.5ºC SURVIVE AND THRIVE

Join our “1.5ºC Survive and Thrive” campaign and win a fully funded fellowship to the COP23 climate negotiations in Bonn this November! We will also be awarding a semi-funded fellowship and several online fellowships to improve your writing skills.

1.5ºC is the temperature increase we must stay below if we want to save our planet. This is critical for many nations around the world to protect glaciers, reefs, avoid sea level rise or extreme heat. This is why Climate Tracker is starting a campaign to support ambitious and consistent climate action in line with the 1.5 goal. We want journalists and communicators from everywhere in the world to explain why this limit is necessary, and why we will live in a better world if we do not surpass it, transitioning to a greener and more sustainable future.

The best writers will get a chance to attend COP23 Bonn in November 2017 with the Climate Tracker team. There you will receive training on climate and journalism, get to attend the international climate negotiations and meet amazing people from everywhere in the world! You cannot miss it!

ARE YOU INTERESTED? HERE WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO:

Between the 10th of April and the 19th of May you have to write two articles about two specific topics we will give you. Then you have to publish them in media in your country or region. It can be a newspaper, a magazine, an online news site, etc. Once an article is published, you have to submit the link through the official app.

Climate Tracker will revise the articles submitted through the app, give you feedback and tips, and select the best writers, who will win the different prizes mentioned.

The two topics are the following:

  • First publishing time (10th-28th April): Explain why is important for your country to stay below the 1.5ºC limit with concrete impacts.
  • Second publishing time (1st-19th May): Explain the solutions that your government needs to enforce (NDCs, national policy…) and why taking action is beneficial.
  • Extra topic! (Until 19th May). It gives you “extra points” to win a fellowship, but it is not compulsory to write about it. The topic is: “Big polluters against 1.5”, where you have to write about this report.

The “1.5ºC Survive and Thrive” campaign aims to raise awareness around the world about the importance of keeping global temperature below this threshold and the multiple benefits that this would bring.

You have to write two articles about two specific topics. The first one about the importance of 1.5 in your country or region and what impacts would mean surpassing this threshold. The second one about the solutions you think should be implemented and why this would be beneficial for your country or region (better health, preserving biodiversity, etc).
