Ela Bhatt Professorship for Development and Decent Work (ICDD)

The ICDD is looking forward to applications for the prestigious Ela Bhatt Professorship. During the application period 2015 to 2019 you can apply for the Ela Bhatt Professorship at the ICDD in Kassel (Social Sciences) or Witzenhausen (Organic Agricultural Sciences). We do expect the Ela Bhatt professor to stimulate especially the interdisciplinary research along the research lines of the ICDD:

  • Decent work along agricultural value chains
  • Organizing the informal economy
  • Extractivism and rural welfare
  • Rural-urban linkages: transformation processes, livelihoods & social protection
  • Rethinking development cooperation

As an Ela Bhatt Professor, you will receive a salary of approximately 5,000 EUR per month, plus travel costs. A student assistant will support you with teaching and technical preparation, and ICDD staff will be available to assist with housing and other issues related to daily life in Germany.

The general duration of the professorship is 3 to 12 months (1 Oct to 31 Mar for the winter term and/or 1 Apr to 30 Sept for the summer term) and you will be free to choose which topics and themes to teach.  An example teaching load for 6 months:

6 x 45 minutes per week (14 weeks altogether), i.e. 2-3 lectures/seminars, plus postgraduate supervision.
