Jordan is an attractive academic spot and a country with wealthy culture and history. The sole fact that the Jordan kings were mentioned in the Old Testament of the Bible speaks for itself. It has more than 250,000 years of history and is ready to welcome foreigners with much to show. 

The establishment of higher academic institutions in the country also has its interesting history. The first educational institution of the country was Dar Al-Mu'lemeen' founded in 1958. The primary purpose of it was to prepare teachers to work in the country's schools, under the management of the Ministry of Higher education, and the graduates received only a two-year diploma. With further modifications, Teachers' houses became community colleges in the 1970s. At the same time, in 1962, the University of Jordan was founded as the first formal university in the country. However, many sources cite the year 1990 as a turning point in Jordan's higher education history. That's when the country established its first private university, Amman Private University

Public universities are free of tuition fees. Students mainly for about the university fees when applying to private universities. The tuitions vary depending on the degree level. In particular, the average undergraduate programs cost up to 12,000 $, while the graduate program fees vary around 20,000$.

As for living costs, almost all the universities provide female students with dormitories. In the case of renting an apartment and buying the average food for a month, the yearly cost of living comprises around 11,000-12,500 $. The country does not allow international students to work with a student visa. For that purpose, students need to have a work visa or work permit.

In Jordan, research activities in the country are coordinated by the principal responsible body National Center for Research and Development. It was founded in 2010 to strengthen the country's scientific and R&D fields and develop Jordan energy, biology, nanotechnology, and other areas.

  • The Energy Research Programme is of vital importance in the country because currently, Jordan imports its energy and seeks ways to produce the necessary energy reserves itself.
