GLOBALIZATION: INTEGRATION OF LANGUAGES IN OUR MODERN WORLD
Themes in Literature, Linguistics, Language, Film and Cultural Studies
The Department of World Languages & Literatures at Portland State University invites graduate students of modern and classical foreign languages to present their scholarly research on literature, film, culture, linguistics, applied linguistics, language pedagogy, and interdisciplinary studies (e.g., cognitive literary studies, communication studies).
Participants are encouraged to explore international and intercultural patterns and themes, as well as the links between different disciplines and fields. Possible topics and approaches may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Comparative Literature
• Cognitive Literary Studies
• Linguistics
• Translation
• Language Pedagogy
• Language and History
• Culture and Anthropology
• Global Patterns
Individual proposals
Presentations are limited to 20 minutes each. While papers may be read in English or in other languages, English is strongly encouraged to increase attendance. Please submit your abstract of 250 words, in English, at https://www.pdx.edu/wll/graduate-colloquium.
If selected, you will receive a link for conference registration ($25). Participants will be notified of selection by March 30.
Panel proposals of 3-5 presentations
Each presentation in the panel is limited to 20 minutes. While papers may be read in English or in other languages, English is strongly encouraged to increase attendance.
Please submit your proposal of 350-500 words, in English, at https://www.pdx.edu/wll/graduate-colloquium. Each participant in the panel must submit an abstract for their paper.
Participants will be notified of selection by March 30.
