About

Due to the overwhelming success of last year's Complete Beethoven masterclass, Achim Holub and one of London's best orchestras have decided to invite you once more to a course with all the Beethoven symphonies in January 2017.

Every single participant will have the opportunity to work on his or her own choice of movements and to conduct the London Classical Soloists at two concerts at one of London’s greatest venues.
Since Achim Holub and the orchestra are firmly determined to find the most talented conductors, there will also be a competition.

General Information

Venue: the course will take place in Central West London
Number of participants: 12
Podium time with orchestra: 80 minutes + 2 concert performances
Additionally to piano and orchestra sessions, each single participant will receive post-rehearsal feedback andone-to-one personal coaching sessions.

Video

A personalised multi-angle video of your performances including a professional sound recording will be available shortly after the concerts and is included in the course fee.
Additionally, you will receive your complete orchestra session video footage.

Fees

Application deadline: Friday 16 December 2016 5pm
Fee for active participation: £1450
Early Bird Discount: £200, for applications before Friday 30 September 5pm
Fee for passive participation: £150

There are no application or registration fees and we will try to process your application as quickly as possible.
A deposit of £350 will be due two weeks (one week if applying after Thursday 1 December) after receiving our offer of place.
The remaining amount of the course fee will be due on the first day of the masterclass.
Passive participants pay the entire fee on the first day of their attendance.
Partners and family members of active participants will have free access to all sessions and concerts.

Course dates: Monday 2 January till Saturday 7 January
Arrival: Sunday 1 January or Monday 2 January early morning
Departure: Saturday 7 January late evening or Sunday 8 January
Concerts: Wednesday 4 & Friday 6 January 2017, 7.30pm

Repertoire

Beethoven | Symphonies Nos. 1 – 9 [Editions: Bärenreiter]
Additionally: Overtures to Coriolan & Egmont [Editions: Breitkopf or Henle]
We recommend working on your own choice of four to six movements/overtures.

Please note that due to time restrictions there will be no concert performance of the 4th movement of Symphony No. 9.

Competition

All members of the orchestra will be involved in the competition voting process.
Additionally, there will be a panel of five jury members, among them some of the most successful London-based conductors, instrumentalists and music professionals.
The first six results will be announced publicly after the second concert, you will receive your competition feedback at the personal coaching session on the following day.
The winner will be considered for future concert engagements.

Conducting technique and communication of interpretational concepts.
Findings of the historically informed performance practice movement.
Efficient preparation of parts and rehearsals.
Future-oriented career management and music business survival strategies.
Target group: conducting students and professionals; chorus masters; instrumentalists and music pedagogues who would like to improve their skills in ensemble leadership.
